West Coast Shuttle back in Christchurch CBD

Since the February Christchurch earthquake, West Coast Shuttle has operated to and from Riccarton Mall as well as Christchurch International Airport. Cedric Trounson reports that, with the inner city slowly being reopened with the Containerised Shopping Complex and the new Temporary Bus Exchange, the shuttle service to Greymouth has now begun
operating from the Tuam Street bus stop by the hospital car park, opposite the Bus Exchange.

MANZ donates to Christchurch earthquake fund

The Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) has this week handed over a cheque for $12,250 to the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund, the result of two days of fund-raising at its 2011 annual conference in Queenstown.

Christchurch Airport update

At press time, Christchurch Airport was open and operational following yesterday afternoon’s 6.0 earthquake. “Our engineers have thoroughly checked both the runways and the
terminal and we’re pleased to report no damage to the runways and no structural damage to the terminals,” said CHC Airport’s CEO Jim Boult. Air New Zealand was working to clear
the backlog of its domestic flights which were delayed by the quake. Jetstar and Qantas flights were cancelled earlier in the day due to the volcanic ash in the atmosphere from the Chilean volcanic eruption. Emirates flight 418 from Sydney, Bangkok and Dubai was delayed for four hours and was due to arrive in Christchurch at 6.45pm last night. Passengers booked on flights are requested to check with their airlines before coming to the airport.

Powerful earthquakes rock Christchurch

The shattered city of Christchurch has been rocked by two damaging earthquakes this afternoon, measuring magnitude 6 and 5.5. The magnitude 5.5 quake struck at 1pm, 10 kilometres east of Christchurch at Taylor's Mistake beach, at a depth of 11 kilometres, and sent people scrambling for cover. The magnitude 6 quake followed at 2.20pm and was centred 10 kilometres southeast of the city, at a depth of 9km.

CHC first NZ airport to offer Mobile Website

In a first for New Zealand airports, Christchurch International Airport now offers a mobile website - flychc.co.nz - for travellers in order to give them a significantly better
online experience when they use their mobile phones to access the airport’s website. It offers a simplified homepage, a short news item and five easy options for commonly requested information, such as flight information, airport maps and parking information. There is also a back-up emergency homepage for situations such as
the earthquakes, when all flights were cancelled.

85,000 cruise visitors for Christchurch next summer

Lyttelton Port of Christchurch says 64 cruise vessels with up to 85,000 passengers are pre-booked for the next summer season, making it the port’s busiest season despite some cancellations after the February quake. The Press reports that the 1950-passenger Sea Princess will be the first to arrive on 12OCT.

Capital support for Christchurch

Here is a great opportunity to encourage Wellington friends and family to support Christchurch retailers in a special Christchurch CBD expo to be held on the 02-03JUL weekend at Queens Wharf Event Centre in Wellington. On those days, around 70 Christchurch CBD retailers will be offering their goods for sale in the capital, helped by a group of Wellington business people and sponsors like Mainfreight, which is providing all the freight logistics.
