Lakefront Airshow
13 March 2010, Rotorua Village Green
All eyes will be focused skywards at the Rotorua Lakefront on Saturday 13 March when the "Lets go Rotorua lakefront air show' is staged to celebrate the commencement of trans-Tasman air services.
The air show and on ground carnival is being presented by the Rotorua District Council. The generous support of the Rotorua Trust, The Daily Post and Radio Works allows us to make this show a FREE family event and Rotorua residents are being invited to bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy a programme of free entertainment in a real family friendly carnival atmosphere.
With three hours of entertainment both in the sky and on the ground there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Air activities begin at 1:30pm
The air show, featuring 15 spectacular displays and and an on-ground carnival at the Lakefront, was originally scheduled to take place on December 12 to commemorate the arrival of the cityandrsquo;s first trans-Tasman flight from Sydney. However the show had to be postponed due to poor weather.
Events and Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod says he is delighted that the free family event is back on following the determined efforts of organisers to reschedule the show.
"The air show has been highly anticipated by locals, organisers, pilots and performers alike. There's been a massive amount of hard work going on behind the scenes, so we're pleased to be able to offer this fantastic event to our community so soon after the original date."
An alternative date of Sunday 14 March has been set aside in case of bad weather on the Saturday.

Rotorua Musical Theatre presents the AUSTRALASIAN PREMIERE of BAD GIRLS: The Musical
DIRECTED BY: Richard Marshall
MUSICAL DIRECTION BY: Sherlie Dingwall
SEASON DATES: 16th April to 1st May 2010
Bad Girls: The Musical takes as its starting point the original core
characters from the first three series of Bad Girls on TV. Set in the
fictional HMP Larkhall, it's the story of new idealistic Wing Governor
Helen Stewart and her battles with the entrenched old guard of Officer
Jim Fenner and his sidekick Sylvia Hollamby. It also follows the love
story that develops between Helen and charismatic inmate Nikki Wade.
Other featured characters include Shell Dockley and her runner Denny
Blood, old-timer Noreen Biggs, the Two Julies and the ultimate Top Dog,
King-of-Gangland's missus, Yvonne Atkins.
A tragic death on the wing - in which Jim Fenner is implicated - leads
to an angry protest from the women and forces Helen and Nikki to their
opposite sides of the bars. But when it's clear that Helen stands to
lose her job over Jim Fenner's misdeeds, the race is on for the women
to nail Jim once and for all.
